As most of you know, this weekend was the St. Anthony’s Tri down in St. Petersburg, FL. What you may not know is that the girls did the tri too. The Meek and Mighty Tri. They hated the name of it but it was a pretty cool event. Not only were there some seriously blinged out tri kids but there were many adults who did it too. At first, I thought it was kind of funny that adults were doing a 200 yd pool swim, a 5 mile bike, and a 1 mile run but then I saw them and it was quite inspiring. I saw a 75 year old woman who looked as if she were crippled. She walked hunched over and supported by a back brace but then I saw her cruise in on her back for the swim, an assistant helped her with her back brace, and I saw her finsih on the bike and on the run. It was a lot of fun to see her get her 2nd place award in her age division. I also saw 2 men…one 81 the other 85 receive their awards. That’s what I want to be doing when I am 85!! I also got to see some pretty talented kids. The way they come in off the bike to the run…wow! I know I couldn’t do it. I think Haylee is finally convinced that actual tri apparel would cut down her transition time significantly! They both did awesome, in the top half of their age group. In Haylee’s case, only 3 minutes separated 1st from 11th where she landed and 1:10 of that was her fiddling with her t-shirt! It was a lot of fun participating as a family.
Wow, you guys are amazing! I’m impressed at the girls! And I loved hearing about the seniors joining and finishing! So inspiring! Keep sharing all this goodness!
Andrea – So fun to see you building these great memories with your kids. Moments like these will last a lifetime especially in the “I can’t” moments. You will be able to remind them that “yes, you can, and you did!” 🙂
